Comments on Mark 12:41-44 This short passage shows the act of giving is more about sacrifice than anything else. The monetary or material value given in and of itself is not what matters, it is the condition of the giver and the sacrifice they make to give. The widow gives a tiny pittance, but has done so out of obedience and at great sacrifice. The wealthy men cast in large amounts, but it is only a fraction of their disposable income so it is no substantial sacrifice. The widow's mite is paralleled in Luke 21:1-4. v44 The IV/JST clarifies the reading of this verse: KJV IV --- -- For all they For all the rich did cast in did cast in of their abundance; of their abundance; but she but she of her want notwithstanding her want, did cast in did cast in all that she had, all that she had; even all her living. yea, even all her living.
