Comments on Revelation 22 v1-5 The river and tree of life. Compare Lehi's tree of life, 1 Ne. 8 and 1 Ne. 11. This tree of life is clearly placed in a celestial setting by v. 3-5. v2 The tree of life continues on bearing fruit, according to the covenant with Israel. Clearly, those enjoying celestial glory would have free access to the fruit of the tree of life, however this tree is producing twelve types of fruit, one for each tribe of Israel. In the context of LDS theology, I would assume this is referring to "a continuation of seeds for ever and ever", cf. D&C 132:19. v4 "his name shall be in their foreheads", cp. 7:3, Ezek. 9:4. v6-21 The closing message. The final testimony of the angel (v. 6, 8-11, 14-15, 17, 20), some quotations of Christ (v. 7, 12-13, 16), a warning by John against tampering with his writings (v. 18-19, and John's final salutation, v. 20-21. v8-9 Compare 19:9-10. v11 Doctrine of Restoration, cp. Alma 41:12-15. v13 Compare 1:8. v16 "the bright and morning star", where Satan and the beast are called fallen stars (cf. 8:10-11, 12:8), Jesus is still in place. v17 Compare Isa. 55:1-2. v18 This injunction is meant specifically for the book of Revelation. The "book" is better translated "scroll". John borrows from Moses in making this warning, cf. Deut. 4:2. Copyright © 2001 by S. Kurt Neumiller . All rights reserved.
