Comments on 1 Kings 6 v1-10 Construction of the Temple structure. Obviously a large and costly structure. v11-13 The Lord informs Solomon that the acceptance of the Temple is contingent upon their obedience to His commandments, cp. 9:1-9. This statement almost seems to be something of a warning. The Temple structure is very large and elaborate, and the Lord appears to be informing Solomon that expense in construction isn't what make the building His Temple, but obedience to His ordinances. This whole chapter is about how much time and effort was spent to make the Temple a very elaborate and beautiful structure, but the Lord doesn't accept it based upon aesthetics. Its also not surprising the Lord is making it clear they need to be righteous since there are prostitutes among Israel, (cf. 3:16-27) and Solomon is apparently not doing anything about it. v14-38 Ornamentation of the Temple Interior. Obviously the interior decorations required a great deal of time and expense. Copyright © 2002 by S. Kurt Neumiller . All rights reserved.
