Comments on 2 Chronicles 31 v1 The elimination of idols carried out in Jerusalem in v. 14 is taken one step further and the same is done among all of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh. Hezekiah takes advantage of their religious zeal after the two weeks of feasting to send them out into the countryside and en masse wipe out all vestiges of idolatry. v2-19 Reforms continue under Hezekiah. v4-10 Hezekiah re-institutes tithes and offering and the people respond very generously. The tribe of Levi is supported out of these offerings so they may engage in the labor full-time. The tithes and offerings are so great they are overwhelmed by it. Israel's return to worshiping the Lord and the rededication of the Levites to the service has resulted in an abundance of food, which is a typical covenant blessing. v19 Note the emphasis on the genealogy included in the account by the priestly authors. v20-21 Summary of Hezekiah's role as king.
