Comments on Deuteronomy 11 The subject here is similar to that of the chapters treated above. And again, we have another tight chiasm: A - (v. 1) Love the Lord, keep the commandments B - (v. 2-7) Fathers saw history firsthand C - (v. 8) That ye may posses the land D - (v. 9) Prolong your days in the land E - (v. 10-12) The land is blessed by the Lord F - (v. 13a-b) Hearken diligently unto My commends F - (v. 13c-d) Love and serve the Lord they God E - (v. 14-15) The bounty of the land D - (v. 16-21) That your days may be multiplied C - (v. 22-25) Ye shall posses greater nations B - (v. 26-31) Sons will see imminent acts of God firsthand A - (v. 32) Observe My statutes and judgements Aside from the chiastic structure, v. 1-7 is set up so as to say "Since you saw all of these miracles performed in your own eyes (v. 2-7), then you ought to worship the Lord and keep His sayings (v. 1)". Verses 9-14 is composed of a series of standard covenant blessings, if you keep the covenant you will be blessed. And we also have the nature of covenanting with God presented in v. 26-28. There it is stated plainly that covenanting with God is interactive, once in the covenant you are subjected to His blessings and cursing as His divine Mercy and Justice require.
