Comments on Exodus 13

v1  As the firstborn of Israel was spared as a result of the
blood of the lamb, the Lord claims those spared as his own. 
These must be redeemed, v. 15.

v9  In some cases statements such as this are referring to
phylacteries, cp. Deut. 6:8.  However, in this case the statement
is saying the actions they are to perform in keeping the
prescribed Feast of Passover is to be a reminder "between your
eyes" (i.e., in your thoughts) and "on your hand" (i.e., in your
actions).
