Book of Mormon Statements on Resurrection and its Effects by S. Kurt Neumiller 2 Ne. 2 9 Wherefore, he is the first-fruits unto God, inasmuch as he shall make intercession for all the children of men; and they that believe in him shall be saved. 10 And because of the intercession for all, all men come unto God; wherefore, they stand in the presence of him to be judged of him according to the truth and holiness which is in him. Wherefore, the ends of the law which the Holy One hath given, unto the inflicting of the punishment which is affixed, which punishment that is affixed is in opposition to that of the happiness which is affixed, to answer the ends of the atonement-- The "intercession for all the children of men" is referring to the resurrection and the expiation of sins wherein the individual is not culpable. This intercession brings people back into the presence of God to be judged according to their works. 2 Ne. 9 13 O how great the plan of our God! For on the other hand, the paradise of God must deliver up the spirits of the righteous, and the grave deliver up the body of the righteous; and the spirit and the body is restored to itself again, and all men become incorruptible, and immortal, and they are living souls, having a perfect knowledge like unto us in the flesh, save it be that our knowledge shall be perfect. 14 Wherefore, we shall have a perfect knowledge of all our guilt, and our uncleanness, and our nakedness; and the righteous shall have a perfect knowledge of their enjoyment, and their righteousness, being clothed with purity, yea, even with the robe of righteousness. 15 And it shall come to pass that when all men shall have passed from this first death unto life, insomuch as they have become immortal, they must appear before the judgment- seat of the Holy One of Israel; and then cometh the judgment, and then must they be judged according to the holy judgment of God. Resurrected persons obtain a perfect knowedge of all their actions and are subsequently judged. Mosiah 3 24 And thus saith the Lord: They shall stand as a bright testimony against this people, at the judgment day; whereof they shall be judged, every man according to his works, whether they be good, or whether they be evil. 25 And if they be evil they are consigned to an awful view of their own guilt and abominations, which doth cause them to shrink from the presence of the Lord into a state of misery and endless torment, from whence they can no more return; therefore they have drunk damnation to their own souls. At judgement people have a perfect perception of their acts. Alma 5 18 Or otherwise, can ye imagine yourselves brought before the tribunal of God with your souls filled with guilt and remorse, having a remembrance of all your guilt, yea, a perfect remembrance of all your wickedness, yea, a remembrance that ye have set at defiance the commandments of God? At judgement people have a perfect rememberance of all iniquities. Alma 11 42 Now, there is a death which is called a temporal death; and the death of Christ shall loose the bands of this temporal death, that all shall be raised from this temporal death. 43 The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame, even as we now are at this time; and we shall be brought to stand before God, knowing even as we know now, and have a bright recollection of all our guilt. The resurrection brings about a perfect union of the physical and spirit bodies which result in a perfect knowledge concerning all their acts. Alma 42 23 But God ceaseth not to be God, and mercy claimeth the penitent, and mercy cometh because of the atonement; and the atonement bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead; and the resurrection of the dead bringeth back men into the presence of God; and thus they are restored into his presence, to be judged according to their works, according to the law and justice. The resurrection brings mankind back into the presence of the Father. As the Fall put mankind out of God's presence, the resurrection will put them back in. Hela 14 17 But behold, the resurrection of Christ redeemeth mankind, yea, even all mankind, and bringeth them back into the presence of the Lord. All makind will be resuurected and subsequently be brought back into God's presence. Mormon 6 21 And the day soon cometh that your mortal must put on immortality, and these bodies which are now moldering in corruption must soon become incorruptible bodies; and then ye must stand before the judgment- seat of Christ to be judged according to your works and if it so be that ye are righteous, then are ye blessed with your fathers who have gone before you. Resurrection brings about judgement. Mormon 9 13 And because of the redemption of man, which came by Jesus Christ, they are brought back into the presence of the Lord; yea, this is wherein all men are redeemed, because the death of Christ bringeth to pass the resurrection, which bringeth to pass a redemption from an endless sleep, from which sleep all men shall be awakened by the power of God when the trump shall sound; and they shall come forth, both small and great, and all shall stand before his bar, being redeemed and loosed from this eternal band of death, which death is a temporal death. Resurrection brings mankind back into the presence of God, thus they are redeemed from physical death. This physical redemption brings about the judgement where all mankind is judged. Conclusion As mankind fell from the presence of God withthe Fall, they will all be redeemed from the Fall by the physical resurrection. This physical redemption will result in a perfect union of the physical and spirit bodies which will bring about a complete rememberance and perception of all memories. This complete rememberance will result in the individual being judged. -- Kurt Neumiller kurtn@ocean.rutgers.edu
